Sitting for a long time in the office can increase the risk of office syndrome. Prolonged sitting in the car can also lead to diseases that are dangerous to your quality of life, such as:
1. Muscle Inflammation:
Sitting in a confined space in the car without the ability to change postures can lead to muscle fatigue. Common signs are pain and fatigue, which can eventually lead to neck, back, or shoulder pain. If not managed properly, it may lead to muscle stiffness, inflammation, or even chronic conditions. It is important to take breaks and stretch your muscles to improve blood circulation and alleviate muscle fatigue.
2. Degenerative Disc Disease / Nerve Compression due to Cushion Misalignment:
Long and continuous hours of sitting, especially in improper postures, can lead to degenerative disc disease and nerve compression. This occurs due to prolonged pressure on the discs and nerves, making cushions vulnerable and prone to injury. Sitting in awkward or slouched positions for an extended period increases the pressure on the discs, leading to potential damage. Sitting with the back straight and using appropriate cushions can help reduce this risk.
3. Hypertension:
Prolonged periods of sitting still, especially during traffic jams, can increase the risk of hypertension. Blood clots in the lower extremities can occur, leading to deep vein thrombosis (DVT). DVT can cause redness, swelling, and pain, and in severe cases, clots can travel to vital organs such as the lungs or heart, posing a life-threatening risk. To prevent this, it's essential to change positions, stretch, and walk around during long journeys.
4. Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs):
The risk of urinary tract infections increases when individuals hold in their urine for extended periods. This often happens in situations where restrooms are not readily available, such as during long car journeys. Holding in urine can lead to infections, discomfort, and potential kidney problems. It is crucial to stop and use restroom facilities when needed to avoid this condition.
To avoid issues caused by extended car sitting, maintain proper posture, avoid leaning, stretch, and do muscle-strengthening exercises. Take breaks, wear loose clothes, stay hydrated for good blood circulation, and seek medical help for chronic pain.
